Once Upon a Time in Wonderland lays the foundation for a love story like no other! Check out all the reveals from tonight’s episode.
Wonderland is full of people on a mission on this weeks’s Once Upon a Time in Wonderland episode 2 ‘Trust Me.’ What they hope to gain in the end is where two stories come into conflict. For one side of the hunt, limitless power is on the line. On the other side, love guides two separated hearts back together. The question is, which will come out on top?
Agrabah That Was: Jafar suspects that a local acarf stand owner, living above his means, must have a way of getting these luxeries. The man panics and runs to release Cyrus. In a moment of panic, Cyrus attempts to plea for the man to consider his wish before banishing him to a land far away. Jafar’s failure to procure the genie in this early scene fuels his desire to keep Cyrus locked in his dungeon as long as he can.
Wonderland: The Knave and Alice are on their way to fulfill Alice’s recent plan to retrieve Cyrus from an unknown location. After an outfit change from the “clothes horse,” Alice informs Will that she will go take Cyrus’ lamp from a secret hiding place and use her wishes for simple items, such as a cupcake. Small wish, small sacrifice. Once the wishes are complete, Cyrus should return to his bottle and the Knave can set him free. Alice will have to trust the Knave to follow through with this plan.
As the two make their way towards the Mimzy Meadows, Alice and Will come to a large body of water. In order to cross it, Alice claps to summon a fairy “ferry” to cross over. Silvermist arrives to douse them with pixie dust, but upon recognizing Will she quickly changes her tune. Fulfilling her job in spite of the heartbreaker in her midst, everyone takes off over the sea. Her good fortune only lasts so long as she drops Will in the water halfway across. Luckily for the duo, a Mock Turtle is tamed by Alice and directed to the opposite shore.
After the two arrive at the location of the lamp in the Mimsy Meadows, they discover that someone has beaten them to it; Jafar. Alice informs Will that part of her plan is misdirection. The lamp is not buried there, but in another garden. Alice devises the plan to see the faces of her enemies. Smart girl!
Wonderland Past: Cyrus and Alice, an accidental love. At the start of Cyrus and Alice’s relationship one important element happens before the proposal of wishes. Alice and Cyrus have a conversation. In fact, the conversation lasts for a while before Cyrus even pledges his allegiance to her as her genie. Time wears on and Alice does not make any wishes, despite Cyrus’ insistence that she does. Instead Alice asks about the world, to which he replies, “I can show you.” Try to stop singing now!
Cyrus teaches Alice to sword fight and learn the weaknesses of her opponents. Luckily, Alice guesses correctly that Cyrus’ weakness is a kiss from her. Cue adorable awwwws! In one final plea before proclaiming his love, Cyrus asks Alice if she is willing to choose their love as the key to their freedom. She is.
Girl Power The Red Queen battle Jafar in a battle of wits. Using the White Rabbit as her pawn, the queen demands to know where the Cyrus’ lamp is. The rabbit knows the true location of the lamp since he was there when they buried it. However, the Red Queen gives Jafar a false location in order to demand his respect for her key role in their operation. Holding onto the lamp sets her as his equal. The pawn has just become a key component on the board.
Forever Thine, Forever Mine: Trapped in a silver prison cage, Cyrus moans through his days while playing chess with another inmate. It is not until a stroke of genius that Cyrus remembers an important memory. An enchanted piece of paper allows Cyrus to send a message to Alice warning her to get out of Wonderland as fast as she can. Alice receives the note in the garden and her faith is restored for her journey forward. Despite Cyrus’ warning, Alice replies, “I’m coming for you!”
Wrapup:
•The Knave has an interesting role in this episode of the story and there is still much more to discover about him. Consistently, Will asks Alice to think about what her life will look like if it turns out that Cyrus is not waiting for her. Who is Anatasia, the girl who stole the heart of the Knave and created his cynical demeanor. It will be interesting to see how the friendship benefits both Alice and Will.
•What does the Queen have on the White Rabbit that keeps him on edge?
•How many more reminders of Aladdin are we in for? (Did anyone else picture Robin Williams’ genie reciting the four laws of magic?)
