Look back at Homeland season 3, episode 3 which featured the return of Brody to the critically acclaimed drama.
Last week’s episode saw Carrie thrown into a psych ward by Saul so she could get her mental state under control, while Saul and Fara got closer to bank movements helping them figure out terrorist connections.
What happened this week? The episode focused around Brody and Carrie.
Brody’s in Venezuela. And he’s in bad shape because he was ambushed and shot as he crossed the Colombian border, leaving him in hyperbolic shock. He gets picked up by a group of men working for a man named El Nino, a former CIA contact of Carrie’s. El Nino meets Brody the morning after getting the bullet taken out of his stomach and tells our fugitive about his connection to Carrie.
Eager to recover quickly so he can leave, Brody takes a rehabilitation walk and sees the tall building he’s in called Tower of David, named after the banker who bought the building and let it fall to shambles.
Later in the day El Nino calls Brody to meet with him. He has his passport and watch which were stolen from him while he was recovering the night before. El Nino also has the robber, and after Brody confirmed it was he who was the thief, El Nino’s people – to Brody’s horror – push the thief off the building. Protesting the decision, El Nino smartly reminds Brody that the robber could’ve ended up recognizing him and could have turned him in for a $10 million reward.
Trying to leave the compound because he can’t stand being in the Tower of David trapped with these strange people, El Nino’s people catches and stops him. When they speak together El Nino refuses to let Brody go. It’s the “end of the line” for Brody.
So with all his newfound spare time Brody decides to give his deceased thief a burial in a blanket. It’s then that in front of El Nino’s daughter he gets the idea to go to the nearby mosque for freedom. She reluctantly agrees to go with him because he knows that the Imam won’t turn him in thanks to his Muslim roots.
He gets access to the mosque after speaking with the Imam. His freedom doesn’t last for long, because once in the shower two police come in and knock him out. It turns out the Imam thinks he’s not a muslim but a terrorist. The moment the police take him outside two of El Nino’s people kill the police as well as the Imam and his wife. They take Brody back and El Nino lectures him on his mistake. After the doctor calls him a cockroach and leaves, Brody drugs himself up.
All the meanwhile, Carrie is still being treated. She meets with a doctor and asks him to tell Saul about “how much better [she’s] doing.” The doctor asks her if this means that she now realizes Saul was right to put her away, but Carrie can’t bring herself to confess that.
Later, she finds out that someone had tried to come visit her and she excitedly assumes it is Saul. She asks a favor of one of the workers to let her know the next time someone comes to visit, despite the fact that she doesn’t have visitation rights yet. Sure enough, the next day a black SVU shows up and Carrie thinks it’s for her. She gets the worker she made a deal with to let her go see the person. It’s not Saul of course – it’s someone from a law firm who has a partner interested in getting Carrie out of the ward. She’s not interested however, because the mystery person who wants to get her out wants her to work against Saul, and she’s doesn’t want to do that.
What did you think of ‘Homeland’ season 3, episode 3?
The episode was different than a standard episode if only because the storyline focused on how trapped both Carrie and Brody are in their respective situations. Brody appears to not have made any progress on his freedom. On the other hand, previews for next week’s episode show that Carrie will be free for at least 24 hours.
Homeland season 3, episode 4 “Game On” airs Sunday, October 20 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on Showtime. Watch a preview of the storyline below. It looks like a much more exciting storyline than the one we saw tonight:
