In August we learned that Friends alum and Web Therapy creator Lisa Kudrow would be joining Shonda Rhimes’ Scandal season 3, and today we’re hearing more about her role.
Speaking with TV Line in New York recently, Abby actress Darby Stanchfield shed a little light on Kudrow’s character set to make her first appearance on the fourth episode of season 3 airing October 24.
“Lisa has a really nice role” portraying a powerful and smart politician, said Stanchfield. She added, “Our characters get along. She’s almost like a mentor. Not quite like Olivia, but Abby admires the heck out of her, so it was fun to play.”
The actress also said that Kudrow’s character will be nothing like her iconic role of Phoebe on NBC’s Friends, which she is best known for. “You’re not getting Phoebe. It’s kind of amazing what you are going to get. You’re getting the spicy version in that variety pack.”
Scandal season 3’s premiere episode last Thursday brought record-high ratings for the drama starring Kerry Washington. Episode 2, airing tonight on ABC, will see Olivia Pope fighting back against new allegations from the White House which place the affair claims onto another woman who’s completely innocent.
The photo above is our first official look at Kudrow in her role. She appears to be addressing the media and is very confident in whatever she has to say. Flanked by members of her team, we still do not know exactly what type of job her character will have later this month. Nonetheless, Rhimes and Washington are reportedly very impressed with the acting work Kudrow has pulled off for the beloved ABC drama.
Thanks to TV Line for the interview with Stanchfield.
