Because summer 2015 wasn’t already busy enough, Disney has decided to bump up Ant-Man from its original fall 2015 release date.
Disney has announced that Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man will now be released July 31, 2015 in lieu of its original November 6 release date.
By moving from the fall to the summer, Ant-Man steps out of the frying pan and into the fire. When it was scheduled to be released in November, Ant-Man would have been competing directly against James Bond 24 and the animated Peanuts film.
While they are some good competition, they’re nothing like what Ant-Man will face now. Ant-Man will be released only two weeks after the Man of Steel sequel that introduces Ben Affleck as Batman, and while two weeks is a decent amount of time, Warner Bros will hope that Batman VS Superman will have what it takes to be ruling the box office for a while.
The bump to July also makes for a very packed summer for Disney. They have The Avengers: Age of Ultron coming out on May 1, Pixar’s Inside Out on June 19, and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 on July 10.
Though nothing will be set in stone until an official announcement has been made, this adds more probability to the rumor that Star Wars: Episode VII will be pushed from the expected May 2015 release date to Christmas that same year.
The Wrap broke the news with this tweet:
