Some new movie trailers have been released including Drift, Getaway, Runner, Runner; The Way, Way Back; Paranoia, Blue Jasmine, Filth, Apartment 1303, and The Frozen Ground .
‘Drift’
The new Drift movie trailer features, as you would expect, some great surfing footage. We wonder if that’ll be enough to get people to come see it. How will the film that seems like it’ll make a quick jump form easy going surf flick to all-out thriller do? We’ll have to wait and see.
After their mother escapes from Sydney to Margaret River in the 1970’s, the two Kelly brothers spend their youth searching for the perfect wave. Out of necessity the family launches a backyard surf business – re-thinking board design, crafting homemade wetsuits and selling merchandise out of their van.
Battling big waves, small town conservatism and criminals, the brothers give rise to a global brand. A story of passion, corruption, friendship and loyalty, deadly addictions and fractured relationships, “Drift” tells a tale of courage and the will to survive at all odds.
‘Getaway’
Ethan Hawke’s wife gets kidnapped, and the standard “follow the kidnapper’s instructions” movie goes awry when Selena Gomez jumps in the car. Together, they have to follow his instructions to make sure his wife stays alive. This one looks to have decent potential.
“Getaway’ is the gritty, heart-pounding action thriller in which former race car driver Brent Magna (Ethan Hawke) is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Shelby Cobra Mustang, taking it and its unwitting owner (Selena Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.
‘Runner, Runner’
While it looks reminiscent of 21 (at least in the beginning), this how-could-my-gambling-go-wrong gone wrong movie stars Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck, and it looks like it could be really fun. It’s refreshing to see Affleck as bad guy, but Timberlake can still pass as a college student? Okay.
Princeton grad student Richie (Justin Timberlake), believing he’s been swindled, travels to Costa Rica to confront online gambling tycoon Ivan Block (Ben Affleck). Richie is seduced by Block’s promise of immense wealth, until he learns the disturbing truth about his benefactor. When the FBI tries to coerce Richie to help bring down Block, Richie faces his biggest gamble ever: attempting to outmaneuver the two forces closing in on him.
‘The Way, Way Back’
While the actual movie may not center around Steve Carell, this trailer wants you to think it does. That shouldn’t be surprising. Most coming of age tales like this one often feature a strong supporting cast. With Steve Carrell, Sam Rockwell, Toni Collette, AnnaSophia Robb, and Maya Rudolph, The Way, Way Back is no exception.
“The Way, Way Back” is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan’s (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world – all during a summer he will never forget.
‘Paranoia’
While it looks interesting enough to keep most viewers captivated, this movie trailer shows that Paranoia may have some problems. The trailer doesn’t hide the fact that there is a lot going on, and it might be too much. Regardless, this will be one to see for the cast alone.
The high stakes thriller “Paranoia” takes us deep behind the scenes of global success to a deadly world of greed and deception. The two most powerful tech billionaires in the world (Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman) are bitter rivals with a complicated past who will stop at nothing to destroy each other. A young superstar (Liam Hemsworth), seduced by unlimited wealth and power falls between them, and becomes trapped in the middle of the twists and turns of their life-and-death game of corporate espionage. By the time he realizes his life is in danger, he is in far too deep and knows far too much for them to let him walk away.
‘Blue Jasmine’
Now this is more like it. Blue Jasmine is directed by Woody Allen and stars Cate Blanchett as a woman who has just had everything stolen from her by her husband (Alec Baldwin). This looks like a great Allen movie and teases the film in perfect fashion.
“Blue Jasmine” is the story of the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife.
‘Filth’ (red-band)
In Filth, James McAlvoy is a bad cop. He’s a cop whose fallen for everything filthy. From the brief look in the trailer, it looks McAlvoy delivers a strong performance. If this style of movie is your thing, this one looks like a good one.
Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth? “Filth” is based on the best-selling novel by Irvine Welsh (“Trainspotting”).
‘Apartment 1303’
“Apartments don’t kill people, people kill people.” Ugh. If you’re looking for a good horror movie, look elsewhere. Assuming the writing in the rest of the movie isn’t infinitely better than what made the trailer, this looks like a movie that wouldn’t even be worth watching for how bad it looks.
The tense supernatural thriller based on a novel by Kei Ôishi and is a remake of a Japanese horror title of the same name.
Having grown up under the controlling grip of her fame-hungry mother (Rebecca De Mornay), Janet Slate (Julianne Michelle) jumps at the opportunity to move into what looks to be a great high-rise apartment in downtown Detroit. Yet some deals are too good to be true as one night her boyfriend Mark (Corey Sevier) finds her in the middle of the street – having fallen from the balcony thirteen stories above.
When her sister Lara (Mischa Barton) tries to investigate the mystery of what happened, she moves into the same apartment and encounters the odd neighbors in the building, including an eerie nine-year old girl who seems to somehow know the real reason for Janet’s fall. Lara soon realizes that her sister’s death might spell the same fate for her unless she can overcome the strange events that are terrorizing the inhabitants in Apartment 1303.
‘The Frozen Ground’
It’s been a long time since he’s been seen as great (or even good) and he picks lots of bad movies, but this Nic Cage movie looks like it could be decent. The movie trailer isn’t ridiculous. While the mystery that will unfold in the movie doesn’t look like it’ll be hard to piece together, it looks like it’ll be enjoyable anyway.
“Frozen Ground” follows Alaskan detective Glenn Flothe (Cage) as he sets out to end the murderous rampage of Robert Hansen (Cusack), a serial killer who has gone unnoticed for 13 years. As the bodies of street girls start to add up in Anchorage, fear strikes a chord with the public. Risking his life, Detective Flothe goes on a personal manhunt to find the killer before the next body surfaces. When a seventeen year old escapee reveals key information about the case, Flothe is finally able to trail the killer. But will he catch him in time to save the next victim?
