PBS announced this morning that Downton Abbey season 4’s air date is set for January 5, 2014!
The Downton Abbey series 4 United Kingdom premiere date has yet to be announced. We presume it will start a couple of months earlier than PBS’ plan so that the Christmas Special can be timed for December. This dashes any hope that PBS was planning to premiere new episodes at the same time as their British counterparts.
Last week, we shared an interview with Downton Abbey executive producer Gareth Naeme, who hinted at big changes on the horizon for the fourth installment of the popular Edwardian-era series. “It clearly will make a huge difference,” he admitted, referring to the death of Lady Mary’s husband Matthew. “But I can assure you that it’s given the show a whole new impetus. We’ve gone off in a whole new direction, and it’s very exciting to see the whole new season come together.” Though Matthew will undoubtedly leave a large car shaped hole, Neame promises that the creative team has “Some great new ideas. The show’s in really good health.”
Changes he may be referring to include new characters like one portrayed by Gary Carr, who will portray a charming and charismatic jazz singer.
Though filming on Downton Abbey series 4 has been well underway for several months, only one official photo has been released.
We’ll be keeping our ear to the ground for Downton Abbey series 4’s ITV air date.
