Once Upon a Time has been dropping hints that Baelfire spent time in Neverland before coming to the real world – but was he Peter Pan?
When Rumpelstiltskin’s son Bae (Michael Raymond-James) re-surfaced in the season 2 episode “Manhattan,” we learned that he is actually Neal Cassidy, Emma’s former flame and Henry’s father.
Considering how many years have passed since he fell through the beanstalk portal as a child, fans quickly came to the conclusion that either the portal also took him forwards in time, or that he’d spent time in another magical realm before moving on.
The most common theory seemed to be that he’d arrived in Neverland, and that we’d find out that he was also Peter Pan. When he revealed that he could captain a pirate ship and knew who Hook was, that seemed even more likely.
But TV Line has spoken to the Once Upon a Time showrunners Ed Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, and they had some interesting comments about Bae/Neil’s alter ego: apparently, they’ve seen a lot of fan theories, but that no one has yet gotten it right.
Seeing as Peter Pan is the most common theory, surely this statement rules it out? Some people are speculating he could simply be one of the Lost Boys, but this is likely to have been suggested to the writers as well.
We’re still saying he’s Rufio. What’s your theory?
In other news, the showrunners can also reveal that Tamara (Sonequa Martin-Green) is definitely not a fairytale character, and has no alternate identity. So whoever Bae is, she’s definitely not his Wendy or Tinkerbell.
Once Upon a Time returns April 21 at 8/7c with 2×19 “Lacey.”
