The Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters theatrical trailer has leaked. Watch it right here!
UPDATE: Watch in HD!
The beginning of the trailer starts off with a bit of exposition that fans will already be familiar with. Even those who have seen the first movie and haven’t read the books should know that demi-gods are the children of mortals and gods. Perhaps this information is specifically for the trailer and won’t feature in the actual film, where it will feel redundant.
Fans will be happy to know that Kronos seems to be taking center-stage as the villain in this movie, after being excluded in the first adaptation. The story follows the lives of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover as they meet new demi-gods, search for the Golden Fleece, and fight new monsters.
The trailer in particular highlights two newcomers – Clarisse, daughter of Ares, and Tyson, son of Poseidon and Percy’s cyclops half-brother. We also get glimpses of Stanley Tucci as Dionysus and Nathan Fillion as Hermes.
The trailer includes some awesome effects for the Chariot of Damnation and the hippocampi. Typical Percy Jackson humor is also present. It’s nice to know that the movie, so far, feels very much like the previous one in terms of tone, but it’s definitely a step up in terms of quality.
The trailer shows quite a bit of footage, smoothly slowing down and speeding up between dialogue and action scenes. Although this is just a trailer, we think fans will be quite happy with it in terms of loyalty as an adaptation. It has everything that was great about the first movie, but seemingly does a better job of following the novels that have such a large and dedicated fanbase.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters opens up in theatres on August 16. It stars Logan Lerman as Percy, Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth, Brandon T. Jackson as Grover, and Jake Abel as Luke. Nathan Fillion (Hermes), Stanley Tucci (Dionysus), Leven Rambin (Clarisse), and Douglas Smith (Tyson) also star.
