The Emmy Awards are fast approaching and New Girl star Max Greenfield discusses his nomination, along with talk of where Schmidt has been and where he’s going.
When asked about his Emmy nomination, Greenfield revealed to Zap2it that it wasn’t much of a surprise. He stated “I was more surprised that it was as much of a thing as it became leading up toward the nomination.” He even called out those who state that they are surprised by their nominations, saying “That’s bulls***. That’s a bunch of bulls***. People follow this. They call you. They tell you what the f***’s going on.” However he did clarify that stars never want to think they are going to be nominated. Don’t let that tough talk fool you though, Greenfield is overjoyed to be nominated and can’t wait to celebrate. He plans on taking his wife along for the ride. “We’re going to enjoy the evening fully. I don’t know, man. I’m excited.”
Greenfield also discussed the development of his character over the first season. When Schmidt was first introduced in the season it seemed he was the character whose sole purpose was to fill the douchebag jar. While surprised that Schmidt was so well developed by the end of the season, he believes that it was the relationship with Cece that turned Schmidt into a deeper character. Greenfield believes that we saw “a lot of vulnerability in the relationship” which made Schmidt a multidimensional character, but clarified that it wasn’t just the relationship that showed us who Schmidt was. “We really did show a lot of shades leading up to this that made all of this Cece storyline meaningful.”
It was also revealed that that Cece and Schmidt will be back to where they started in the first season. Schmidt will once again be trying to get with Cece except this time they have a history. So why aren’t they together? For one thing, Cece will have a new boyfriend, and for another, Greenfield says they both know they have to work on themselves before they can revisit a relationship together.
Do you think Greenfield will win in his category of Best Comedy Supporting Actor?
