Jamie Foxx is in talks to play the president of the United States in Roland Emmerich’s actioner White House Down.
Variety is reporting on the deal:
Studio had no comment on the potential casting. Sources tell Variety that Foxx is intrigued by the presidential role, and his reps have engaged the filmmaker. Official negotiations haven’t begun as Foxx has yet to receive an actual offer, but both sides will continue to pursue the deal.
We reported last month that Channing Tatum had been cast in the lead role as a secret service agent who leaps into action to defend the president after a paramilitary group takes over the White House.
While no offer has yet to be made, the Oscar-winning Foxx is certain to become a popular name in Hollywood closer to the release of the hotly-anticipated Django Unchained, which could steer negotiations a bit.
Emmerich is directing off a spec script by James Vanderbilt which Sony purchased for a cool $3 million back in March. Would you like to see Foxx take the role?
