A question on many Harry Potter fans’ minds leading up to the WB Studio Tour opening is how the experience compares to the Wizarding World theme park in Orlando. Read what David Yates has to say about the two experiences!
Hypable asked Yates which experience he would recommend to fans if they could only choose one, and while he laughingly replied that they should go to both, he also offered a very helpful comparison:
The theme park is fun, and the rides are great fun. It’s a great atmosphere and they’ve done it very tastefully. But I think if you’re interested in movies, and if you’re interested in the film business as opposed to just being a fan of the world, then I think this has probably got the edge on the theme park. The theme park is a wonderful day out, and it’s a great experience, but this is as close as you can get to the movies. I think there’s a real quality here, and it’s tasteful.
Adding a bit more, he also talked about the educational experience which the Studio Tour offers:
Walking down Hogsmeade in the Florida sunshine with snow on the rooftops… children queuing up to go on the rides, that was very trippy and odd. Really lovely, but strange. Whereas this is a very genuinely educational experience. And what’s wonderful about it is that for people who like the films and are curious about them, everything here is in the movies.
Hypable can confirm that while the Tour is indeed educational in nature, it definitely manages to impress fans, and it is a moving experience to see some of the iconic sets and props in person.
Further to this, Potter producers Heyman and Barron added in a separate interview:
This is about the film making process. The theme park is immersive in the sense you go to Hogsmeade and it’s brilliant, though it’s really hot and sunny. It’s a theme park. Sure you can have a ride, but it’s not appropriate [to have a ride here], that’s not what this is about.
We’d like your opinions too! Has all the promotional material made you want to go to the Studio Tour? Would you rather go to Orlando? Or do you agree with Yates that fans need to experience both?
