John Mayer has canceled his upcoming Born and Raised tour and will be taking a break from performing to heal from a throat condition that sidelined him last fall.
Making his announcement via Tumblr Friday, Mayer said he would be resting his voice “for a longer period of time than I care to have you count down” and would not be performing his latest album Born and Raised.
I’m pretty emotionally burnt out at the moment, but please know how hard I tried to resolve this and how disappointed I am that I can’t perform this record yet. I’m completely bummed, especially for all of you who started making plans to see a show. Nothing feels worse than having to break the stage down before the performance, and I mean nothing.
The singer’s SXSW concert on March 17 has also been canceled.
Last fall, Mayer was diagnosed with a granuloma – or throat inflammation – near his vocal chords and underwent surgery. A recent visit to the doctor revealed that it had grown back.
A granuloma is not life-threatening but causes hoarseness, coughing, pain and discomfort.
Mayer said he’ll be using the time away from touring to write his next album.
