Did you miss out on watching the VGAs last night? Wondering who the biggest winners were and what the biggest surprises were? Wonder no more.
The awards section of the event went pretty much as expected. The big winner had to be The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim which picked up the Game of the Year and Best RPG as well as earning Bethesda Game Studios Studio of the Year honors.
Portal 2 and Batman Arkham City also picked up multiple awards each with Best PC Game and Best Xbox 360 Game, respectively.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception was honored as the Best PS3 Game and Best Graphics. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword won Best Wii Game on the same night the series’ creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, became the inaugural recipient of the Video Game Hall of Fame Award.
There were also plenty of announcements and surprises at the event. First and foremost of those surprises was the news that Metal Gear Solid: Rising is now Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and is being handled by Platinum Games with oversight from Kojima Productions with a new trailer to show off the game.
Makers of the Gears of War series, Epic Games, announced their next project, a new IP called Fortnite with a trailer that shows the cartoony art style of the game as well as possible fortress building to defend against zombies.
Bioware had a busy night at the awards, showing off a new trailer for Mass Effect 3 as well as announcing their work on the new entry in the Command and Conquer franchise.
Naughty Dog of Uncharted fame was revealed to be developing a new game entitled The Last of Us with an absolutely amazing trailer that has many excited for the future possibilities of the game.
A new Amazing Spider-Man game was also given its debut with a new trailer. While the game shares the name and suit of the upcoming movie, it seems to be telling a very different story than its film counterpart.
New footage was unveiled for Bioshock: Infinite, Rainbow Six Patriots, Hitman Absolution and Diablo 3 as well as the announcement that Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is being released sometime in fall 2012. A new entry in the Alan Wake franchise and an HD collection of classic Tony Hawk Pro Skater courses was also revealed to be in development.
