The first 12 Years a Slave trailer has just been released. This film looks like it’ll be one to watch, particularly with its stellar cast.
12 Years a Slave is the story of Solomon Northrup, a man who was free his whole life until he was kidnapped and forced into slavery. The movie is based off Northrup’s memoir (as told to David Wilson) of almost the same name, Twelve Years a Slave. The Steve McQueen directed film is set to be released on December 27.
12 Years a Slave looks incredibly cast. It stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northrup and Michael Fassbender as the plantation owner Edwin Epps, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti, Quvenzhane Wallis, Brad Pitt, and many more.
Today the film’s first trailer was released, and it gives us the feeling that we will be hearing a lot more about it come awards season.
It’s already being speculated that it’ll pick up a few Oscar nominations at the very least, and after seeing that trailer, we’re not surprised.
If a trailer wasn’t enough, we also got a first real poster. While not nearly as much as the trailer, the poster still does get us very excited for the film.
Here’s the synopsis:
12 YEARS A SLAVE is based on an incredible true story of one man’s fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender) as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) forever alters his life.
