Our beloved Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hit New York Comic-Con in full force on Friday night with their jam-packed 75 minute panel.
One thing is for sure: The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast never disappoints. Friday night’s panel (featuring Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennet, and new addition Gabriel Luna, as well as the godfather of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb) was definitely one of the highlights of NYCC as a whole. There was some laughter, a few tears, a little bit of shock, and we’re bringing you the very best of the best moments.
5. Clark Gregg had mixed feelings about the addition of the Ghost Rider at first
Toward the beginning of the panel, Jeph Loeb asked Clark Gregg to recall his first reaction to the news of Ghost Rider joining Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. After all, he’s one of the biggest Marvel fans there is, so of course his reaction would be priceless. “Well, I saw the movies…” joked Gregg, which evoked a roar of laughter from the audience.
He went on to explain that he was originally nervous about the addition of the supernatural character just because the show is based in science. Even what looks like magic is just science we don’t understand yet. So Ghost Rider coming in would change the status quo. But, at the end of the day, “I was stoked,” Clark explained. He had nothing but great things to say about his excitement for Ghost Rider, both in the beginning and right now.
4. ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ season 4 has been kind of lonely for Chloe Bennet
Unlike the rest of the cast, returning to the set has been a bit difficult for Chloe Bennet. Because Daisy has gone off out on her own and essentially become a loner, filming has been a bit difficult. She discussed how hard it is to shoot by herself, especially when everyone else is on set together. Bennet was so excited to get back to work and see all of her friends until she realized that all of her scenes pretty much featured Daisy riding solo. But at least she has Gabriel Luna’s Robbie Reyes to keep her company!
3. One fan takes misdirection to a whole new level
During the panel’s fan Q&A session with the cast, one fan got up to the microphone and sang the (well deserved) praise of Clark Gregg. They mentioned how much they admire his talent and follow everything that he does. They even went so far as to comment on Gregg’s amazing relationship with his equally talented wife, Jennifer Grey (who, to the room’s surprise, just happened to be sitting front row center for the panel). The fan’s compliments and adoration of Gregg was actually pretty touching.
But then they got to their question, which actually wasn’t directed at Clark Gregg at all! After singing Gregg’s praises, the fan turned to Chloe Bennet and asked her about her spotty relationship history to the enormous amusement of everyone in the room (especially Gregg and Bennet). The fan did end up bringing their time at the mic back around to Gregg, asking if Bennet thinks that Daisy/Coulson could ever be a thing (to which she explained how their relationship is her absolute favorite on the show, but just not in that way).
2. Ghost Rider’s character is a real team effort
There’s a lot that goes into getting Ghost Rider up on our screens. First and foremost is Gabriel Luna’s performance of course, but it must be hard to keep the Ghost Rider intensity when he’s dressed up in a shroud (which, fun fact, used to have a skull on the front of it), a large bib, and dots all over his face. Though they’re necessary in order for the amazing special effects crew to bring the Ghost Rider to life, the cast has no problem at poking fun at how ridiculous the whole getup makes him look while on set.
1. The ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ cast gives NYCC a fun surprise!
At the very beginning of the panel, Jeph Loeb came out of the wings wearing a hilarious-looking Ghost Rider Halloween mask and really played it up. Little did we know that that mask would come back later in the panel in the best way possible!
Earlier in the day, while Jeph was out overseeing some Iron Fist filming (!!!), Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennet, and Gabriel Luna took it upon themselves to mingle with the masses. They donned fun Marvel-related costumes (Gregg as Ghost Rider [with the plastic mask], Bennet as Rocket Raccoon, and Luna as Star-Lord) and hit the NYCC floor to ask con-goers about their Marvel TV favorites and opinions. As expected, hilarity ensued and the entire room was in stitches throughout the whole clip (the cast included). Check out the video below. It’ll almost make you feel like you were at NYCC yourself!
Fun fact: This writer is almost positive that she passed by Clark Gregg in his Ghost Rider getup because she remembers giggling at the costume’s ridiculous mask. So now, she’s of course sad she didn’t get to talk to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star in the wild!
