Fox has one — possibly two, possibly three — big super hero franchises on their hands, so it may not come as a surprise that they’re considering a crossover between a couple.

Case and point: X-Men helmer Bryan Singer has revealed there’s a chance the worlds of X-Men and Fantastic Four will collide in a crossover film. By the sounds of things, the collaboration may take place in the not-too-distant future.

“Those ideas are in play,” he told Yahoo! when asked about the possibility. “That would be a natural match-up because they’re both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it.”

When asked how the two could get involved with one another, he said, “It deals with time.”

It sounds like these plans are somewhat far along if he already has an idea in mind!

An X-Men / Fantastic Four crossover is not unlike what Warner Bros. is currently preparing right now with Batman v Superman, which opens in theaters this March. After successfully launching a new Superman series with Man of Steel in 2013, the studio decided that Henry Cavill’s next film as the hero would pit him against the Bat Man.

Crossover films are a great way to ensure a certain amount of box office success, because the premise of having characters from two different franchises share a screen with one another is a tantalizing idea to viewers.

What may halt this project is Fantastic Four’s reception. If it’s a hit, it’s highly likely that this crossover will happen. If it’s not? Don’t count on seeing The Invisible Woman (Kate Mara) appear alongside Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence).

We’ll find out if The Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic, The Human Torch, and The Thing have a bright future on the big screen when Fantastic Four opens in theaters August 7.

If the film doesn’t work out, maybe the X-Men can team up with Deadpool in a future film? The new Ryan Reynolds-led super hero film is looking like it’s going to be a huge hit.
