Ever since the final trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse came out, fans have been wondering what Wolverine’s cameo meant! Bryan Singer has now revealed that it we’ll be seeing Wolverine as Weapon X!

At the very end of the final trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, fans get a very small tease of Wolverine. All we knew was that he helps out Jean Grey and Cyclops, per their explanation. Then the screen shows a quick glimpse of his hand as he’s getting ready to fight.

It seemed pretty clear that his involvement in the film would be small, but what we didn’t know was that it’s actually going to be Wolverine when he’s in the Weapon X program and has recently undergone the adamantium bonding.

Bryan Singer revealed to HeyUGuys that we can expect a totally different Wolverine, “What’s really nice about his cameo is that he’s the Wolverine you’ve never seen before. He’s truly Weapon X. Not just the guy coming out of the tank, but the weapon.”

What’s also interesting, was that this wasn’t the first cameo choice they had for Wolverine. Apparently it was quite the process to figure out how to involve him in just the right way for X-Men: Apocalypse. Simon Kinberg explained that, “There was a version where he got introduced in the middle of the movie and became this sort of drill sergeant for the kids, but that felt like it stepped on Raven’s role of becoming the leader to the kids.”

He went on to say that there were around two or three different roles that they tried for Wolverine before settling on one of them. Kinberg also teased a bit more about Weapon X saying, “As we were constructing the movie, we always imagined that they were abducted and taken [to Alkali Lake] and that Weapon X would be there and you’d see something that you’ve never really seen in these movies before which is the full on, out of control, animalistic, stripped down Wolverine.”

This is a cameo that we can definitely get on board with. Many fans have been wondering if they really needed to include Wolverine at all. After hearing that we’ll be seeing him as Weapon X in a new way, we’re ready to see how it plays out on screen.
