Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has hung up his claws, but the X-Men franchise is lining up a spinoff for his protegé Laura, a.k.a. X-23.

Wolverine is dead, long live Wolverine.

This year’s Logan served as a gorgeous sendoff to one of the most popular and beloved characters in the X-Men franchise.

But, inspired by the success of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, Fox is now working on a spinoff focusing on new character Laura, the young female clone of Logan played by Dafne Keen.

Logan directed James Mangold tells The Hollywood Reporter:

“Patty [Jenkins’] success with [Wonder Woman] only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist. The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”

While the Laura-centric movie is still in the ‘dreaming’ phase, the X-Men movie series isn’t short on spinoff attempts (some of them female-led), constantly searching for a superhero as successful and popular as, indeed, Logan.

We hope that this project gets off the ground, because a Laura-centric movie would be the perfect way to revisit the Wolverine franchise from a fresh perspective — and Dafne Keen, if they bring her back, is more than capable of carrying her own movie!

Even Hugh Jackman, though confessing he “won’t be a producer” on a potential Laura movie, “will be lining up on the Thursday night at 10 p.m. to watch it. She is just phenomenal.”
