Things are moving right along for the X-Men: Dark Phoenix movie, as it officially gets a director and Jessica Chastain thinks about signing on to play the villain.
Simon Kinberg, who has been attached to all things X-Men since he wrote the script for X-Men: The Last Stand, has been formally announced as the director for X-Men: Dark Phoenix. He will be serving as the film’s writer and producer as well.
It was long suspected that Kinberg would be making his directorial debut with this film, so this announcement comes as no surprise.
More surprising, but most interesting indeed, is the news that Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the main villain, Shi’ar Empress Lilandra, in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
In the comics, Liliandra’s powers include enhanced physical abilities thanks to her extraterrestrial origins, as well as limited telepathic abilities. She is trained in hand to hand combat and can definitely hold her own against the X-Men.
According to Deadline, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Kodi Smit-McPhee are all set to return to their roles for this next chapter in the X-Men saga.
Check out all the reasons we think this is the chance for these films to finally do Jean Grey justice here.
