Ron Howard’s Willow could find new life in the form of an adapted series over on Disney+.

According to Deadline, director Ron Howard revealed that he may be gearing up to turn Willow into a series for none other than Disney+.

Howard, who directed the original 1988 film from a story by George Lucas, hinted at the project on a recent episode of MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Speaking to host Josh Horowitz, Howard revealed that writer Jon Kasdan (who worked with Howard on Solo: A Star Wars Story) had been “hounding him” about a potential continuation of the film for Disney’s upcoming streaming service.

“I think it’d be a great way to go,” said Howard on the podcast. “In fact, George [Lucas] always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it’d be great and more intimate, and built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really cool.”

With regards to who could star in the proposed continuation, it’s clear that Howard sincerely hopes actor Warwick Davis would be interested in returning if such a series moves forward over on Disney+

“Warwick is so cool and so good and he’s such a good actor that I really hope we get the chance to see the mature Willow in action,” added Howard.

Disney has yet to comment on the matter so it’s best to treat the possibility of a Willow series as a rumor for now. That being said, it seems as though Kasdan and Howard are pretty passionate about the idea, so we’ll be curious to see if Disney+ gives the series the official green light.
