Could Allison Janney make her return to TV on HBO’s The Newsroom? If the West Wing actress could have her way, she would be working again with show creator Aaron Sorkin as soon as possible.
Sorkin fans will know Allison Janney from her role of press secretary C.J. Cregg on The West Wing, which ran from 1999 to 2006. However, following her success on the Sorkin show, the award-winning actress has worked primarily in film. Speaking to Inside Track, Janney discussed her return to TV, and her “need” to be on Aaron Sorkin’s controversial new show, The Newsroom.
“Well, he needs to put me on that show! I would love to be on it. Maybe he’ll think of a character for me. It would be great!”
Can you imagine Allison Janney on the workplace drama? We have our fingers crossed that Sorkin has read this interview, and is hastily writing her into The Newsroom season 2.
If she does return to the fast-paced world of Sorkin, Janney wouldn’t be the first West Wing star to make the transition. Recurring West Wing actor Adam Arkin was featured in The Newsroom 1×09, “The Blackout, part 2: Mock Debate”, and will be returning in season 2. Additionally, Newsroom star John Gallagher, Jr. featured in The West Wing 4×01, “20 Hours in America, Part 1” (although interestingly enough, he didn’t meet Sorkin until he began work on The Newsroom).

Actress Emily Mortimer let slip the date when season 2 filming will recommence. Not only will Adam Arkin be returning in season 2, season 1 guest star David Krumholtz will also be back, as confirmed by Aaron Sorkin.
