The Newsroom creator and writer Aaron Sorkin has answered fan questions about the season finale, “The Greater Fool,” on HBO Connect. Amongst his standard non-answers, he has confirmed some season 2 casting. Which two guest starts will be returning to our screens in 2013?
Sorkin has confirmed in the fan Q&A on HBO Connect that Adam Arkin and David Krumholtz will be returning in season 2. Sorkin states, “Adam and David are both great (and they’ll both be back in Season II).”
Krumholtz appeared in three episodes of season 1 as Dr. Jack Habib, psychiatrist to Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels). Adam Arkin turned up in 1×09, “The Blackout, part 2: Mock Debate,” playing Will’s college friend and Republican party representative, Adam Roth. Did you catch Sorkin’s little joke in this casting?
The eagle-eyed Sorkin-ites may have had a chuckle as Sorkin’s private joke, casting two Sorkin psychiatrists in the same Newsroom episode (did you remember Arkin as President Bartlet’s psychiatrist in Sorkin’s magnum opus, The West Wing?).
We aren’t surprised to see Krumholtz’s character returning – it seems like Will may still have plenty of issues to work through in season 2. Arkin is more surprising, although we are glad to see his appearance wasn’t merely a throwaway.
Why do you think Adam Roth would be making an appearance in Will’s life? Are we going to see a larger focus on his Republican leanings in The Newsroom season 2?
