It looks like Supergirl could be the next superhero to fly onto the silver screen.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros., and DC are currently working on developing a feature film centered on the Girl of Steel herself, Supergirl.

The studio has yet to settle on a director or a producer for the project, but they have found a screenwriter.

The outlet has confirmed that Oren Uziel is currently working a script for the project. Uziel’s previous credits include The Cloverfield Paradox and 22 Jump Street. Additionally, he’s also working on the screenplay for director Simon McQuoid’s upcoming Mortal Kombat movie.

As production on the film is currently in its early stages, there’s no much more information with regards to the plot.

With that in mind, we’re sure many DC fans will be ruminating over whether the introduction of Supergirl into the Warner Bros and DC cinematic universe could find the female superhero teaming up with her equally famous cousin, Superman (currently played by Henry Cavill).

There’s still a lot of room for speculation with regards to what a Supergirl movie might entail. There’s also no word yet on when we can expect to see the film make its way onto the big screen.

While we wait to hear word on how things develop on the Supergirl front, fans clamoring for more kick-ass women to grace the big screen can look forward to a few other female-centric superhero flicks coming down the pipeline from Warner Bros., and DC.

First up, we have the highly anticipated sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, to look forward to. The Patty Jenkins-helmed film, which stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, and Kristen Wiig, hits theaters on November 1, 2019.

Other female driven DCEU content coming down the pipeline include director Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey, a solo Batgirl movie written by Bumblebee scribe Christina Hodson, and Margot Robbie and David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens which will shine a spotlight on some of DC’s most infamous female villains.
