After a lot of questions about whether or not Venom will actually happen, it looks as though the project is moving forward.
It was about this time last year that we learned the Venom project was potentially back on the table.
The Hollywood Reporter brings news of an update on the movie, stating that it has now been scheduled for an October 5, 2018 release date.
Of the film, we know that Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner have recently turned in a draft of the script, taking over for Dante Harper. Pinkner previously worked on Amazing Spider-Man 2, so he’s got some Spider-Man work under his belt already. There is no director attached as of yet.
We have previously seen Venom on-screen in Spider-Man 3, as played by Topher Grace, but that film is pretty widely panned by critics and fans alike.
Venom is one of Marvel’s biggest villains, but has recently become less of an antagonist and more of an anti-hero, as the being behind Venom’s powers is actually an alien that must bond with a human to survive. Therefore, the host must grapple with the influence the creature has on them. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how this film portrays such a character.
