Hypable spoke with Tyler Posey at the NYCC Nissin Cup Noodles’ Noods Before Dark pre-party about his upcoming roles on Jane the Virgin and Scream.

The Heroes After Dark Party is certain to bring in a crowd at New York Comic-Con, but the Noods Before Dark pre-party had its own draw: Tyler Posey. We spoke with the Teen Wolf actor about why he’s endorsing the brand, whether or not he has time to fire up his Xbox, and what we can expect from him now that Teen Wolf is over.

Tyler Posey interview at NYCC

Hypable: First of all, obviously you’re here with Nissin Cup Noodles.

Tyler Posey: Fuck yeah!

H: How’s that?

TP: Oh my God, it’s great. I don’t usually attach myself to things unless I’m really passionate about it.

H: I’ve noticed that!

TP: I grew up a Cup Noodles fan. I grew up skateboarding, and when you’re skating with your friends, skating around at like 7-Elevens, it’s a go-to kind of snack. You get a bag of chips, a drink, a soda, and a Cup Noodles. It’s just been in my life forever and the second I heard about it, I jumped on it. Thought it was so cool! It’s so funny, too, being attached to something. I love it so much, so being attached to it, it makes me laugh. In a good way!

H: And I read that you eat them a lot when you game as well.

TP: Right! Yeah! I used to game a lot. Like Halo. Halo was… It changed my life when I was a kid. I loved it so much. So when Halo kinda fell out, I kinda stopped gaming a little bit? But that’s all I usually did. Eat a Cup Noodles and game, and spill it all over my controller. It was great.

H: So I have to ask, PlayStation, XBox? What’s your go to?

TP: XBox was definitely my go-to. I loved XBox. Are you a PlayStation or are you an XBox?

H: I like to watch video games a lot. I don’t play as much.

TP: I like watching them more now, too.

H: Yeah, I’m getting into actually playing them.

TP: XBox is great. Like the original XBox that I grew up on… Never really got into PS too much. I have one! I have a PS4 and they’re fun, but like, I just started to grow out of video games. Not grow out of them, just don’t have an interest in them anymore. But XBox is probably my… I just get the controller more! It’s more ergonomic in my hands!

H: All right, so I want to ask about some of your upcoming projects. I saw you’re going to be on Jane the Virgin. How awesome is that?

TP: So cool, right?

H: I saw the video of you on her back as she’s doing squats! That was so funny!

TP: Really funny. Gina and I are really good friends. We’ve known each other for a little over five years I think.

K: Oh, before Jane!

TP: Before Jane even started. So we’ve known each other for a while and we see each other every now and then. She worked with Dylan O’Brien. We always had a mutual friend that we were working with. And this role came up for her show and she asked me to be a part of it. I immediately was like, “Hell yeah!” ’cause I love her so much. But I didn’t know how she worked, you know? And she’s the lead. She one of the best leads. She sets a great tone for everybody. She just shows up every day and knows her shit. She’s just one of the greatest people I’ve ever worked with, so it’s really nice working with her. We have a lot fun screwing around on the set a lot. And also getting really good work done. It’s just a really good set! I really like it a lot.

And she’s one of the coolest chicks ever. We had so much fucking fun! Like, we crack fart jokes. She has a really great sense of humor, knows when to be professional. She’s the perfect person you want as a leading character to carry a show. She’s great.

H: Unfortunately, I don’t watch Jane the Virgin, but I’m thinking about it because I’ve heard amazing things. Tell us a little bit about your character and what drew you to it.

TP: The character is really loose. He’s relaxed and he opens Jane’s eyes to almost a new world, you know? My character comes into Jane’s life at sort of a hard time for her. Her husband died about three years ago, and she hasn’t really been able to recover from that. And I kind of help her through it. I’m an old love. Like we dated when we were younger, and so it’s nice to have somebody who you have history with that you can use as a shoulder to cry on, you know? And then we kind of start to rekindle things a little bit. We’re the same age in the show, but she’s a got a kid. She’s very adult and very kind of serious. She takes things seriously. My character doesn’t so much. He still has a lot of kid in him. So he kind of shows her how to be a kid again. It’s just a really sweet role that I love doing. And we’re having a lot of fun with it. He’s an artist. He’s not edgy, but…edgier? He’s just a fun-loving kid. He doesn’t have a worry in the world. He’s really sweet.

H: So what I’m really excited about is Scream. I watched the first two seasons and Loved it so much. Now they’re rebooting it and fans are a little worried because they fell in love with those characters and now they have to meet new people. But I know a lot of people are going to tune in because of you. What can you tell us about your role on Scream and about them rebooting the show and why people should tune in for season 3?

TP: It’s a reboot of a reboot, So it’s been rebooted before. It’s kind of hypocritical to say, “You know what? I’m not going to watch this because they rebooted it.” Well, you watched the last season and that’s a reboot of the original movie! People always kind of have a bad taste in their mouths about reboots. [With] Teen Wolf, no one was on board for it at all when it first got rebooted into our show. But now it gets great reviews, so I think people like to stick to their guns and be passionate about what they love. Which is great. But, you know, come into it with an open mind, but not too open, because it’s a great show! The actors are really great, this new season. The storyline is really cool. It’s different. The actors are really cool. They’re new and they’re great. I know a few of them. It’s good old fashioned Scream. It’s scary! My character is really cool. I’ve never played a character like him before. He’s a bit of a high school drop out druggie.

H: Way different from Scott.

TP: Way different from Scott McCall! Like Scott tried to excel in school. This guy doesn’t care at all. Have you ever seen The Breakfast Club? He’s like the Bender character. I throw parties for the town. Underground parties. I think that might be all I can say. I can tease a little bit about it, but there’s all these characters that people think are the killer. So I might or might not be one of those characters.

H: That’s the best part about the show.

TP: Exactly!

H: And the thing that has me really excited is that the cast for season 3 is incredibly diverse! Even the production team is incredibly diverse. So that’s going to be a lot of fun to see.

TP: It’s really cool. And the directors are great. The production’s great. The cast is super diverse. And they’re all really good actors, too. I only worked one day with them [so far], but they were on it. Everyone knew what to do. They would screw around right before action, [then] action would happen, [and] they’d be serious and know their lines then go back and have fun. It kind of reminded me of Teen Wolf. And it was only their first week of filming, so they still have a lot to learn about each other, this family to build. But they were already doing a really good job at it. So I’m really excited to go back.
