12-year-old actor Ty Simpkins has landed the lead role for Universal’s Jurassic Park sequel Jurassic World.

Fans may remember Simpkins from his most recent role in the massively successful Iron Man 3. He played Harley in Iron Man 3, and played quite a decent sized role in the Marvel film. We imagine Universal saw a very nice opportunity to use his face recognition for their benefit by casting him in Jurassic World.

Deadline notes that Ty has worked with the film’s producer Steven Spielberg before, when he made his feature debut in War of the Worlds as a 3-year-old, which was directed by Spielberg. Simpkins also starred in Insidious, and also reprised his role in the sequel which hit theaters back in September.

Simpkins’ other credits include Pride and Glory, Little Children, and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Revolutionary Road. He certainly has made the right moves so far in his career and grabbing the lead in Jurassic World will certainly keep him on the right track to stardom.

Jurassic World had been scheduled for an opening in 2014, but after production delays, Universal decided to postpone its release date to June 12, 2015.

We also saw that the director had visited the original island used for Isla Nublar, suggesting the storyline may return to that classic location seen in the original Jurassic Park.

The title is particularly interesting. The name Jurassic World obviously has different connotations than Jurassic Park, something that was included in all of the previous movies. In the three Jurassic Park movies, dinosaurs existed within the parks, but the new title seems to suggest that they will roam the entire Earth.

This allows for it not only to be a reboot as was announced a while back, but it also can still be a continuation that would allow for some of the original cast members to return.

What do you think about Ty Simpkins as the lead in the new Jurassic Park sequel? Worried or excited about the fact that he’s still quite young?
