Jurassic Park star Sam Neil says the fourth installment is “a big reboot” in a new interview published in a profile of the actor.
“I’m told it’s a big reboot, a total re-jig,” said Neil, who played Dr. Alan Grant in the first three Jurassic Park movies.
No other information was included in the interview with The Dominion Post, but that one tidbit is certainly interesting. The actor says he has not been approached for a part in the film.
Steven Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park was the best in the series, so a Jurassic Park reboot may be the best idea for Universal in terms of where they want to bring the dinosaur franchise next.
Jurassic Park 4 was scheduled to be released next year until the project was delayed by the studio earlier this month. “In coordination with filmmakers, Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise,” they said on May 8.
They continued, “We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise’s storied history.”
Days before the decision to delay the Jurassic Park 4 release date, Colin Trevorrow had tweeted a photo from his visit to Island Nublar where they were location scouting. The photo made many people wonder why the story’s plot would return to Nublar, where the first Jurassic Park was set. This new quote from Neil may connect the dots.
With Jurassic Park 4 now pushed away from summer 2014, it may be safe to assume that the film will debut in the summer of 2015 or 2016. Universal will likely hold off on setting a release date until they have a solid shooting schedule for the project. If it were to have been released on its original date, the film would’ve been rushed.
Would you like to see a Jurassic Park “total” reboot, or do you want an entirely new story? Considering the success of the Spider-Man franchise being rebooted so soon after the original series starring Tobey Maguire, we’re more open to the idea of other franchises starting over.
