The Witcher is the latest Netflix original whose filming schedule has been disrupted by the current coronavirus pandemic.

The online streaming giant has decided paused production on The Witcher season 2 for the next two weeks.

According to Deadline, who was first to report the news, a source close to the project says: “We have made the decision, effective immediately, to pause production for two weeks during this difficult time…this will allow everyone the time to make informed decision about how to move forward. The coronavirus has raised challenging issues for everyone working on set on productions for Netflix. We are very grateful for all the work everyone has done to keep cast and crew safe during this pandemic.”

Netflix fans who’ve been following production news surrounding various titles might be wondering why The Witcher is among the last of the streaming giant’s series to pause production amid growing coronavirus concerns.

As we learned just a few days ago, Netflix announced that they would be halting production on all of its scripted series for two weeks, at which time they would reassess the situation.

Netflix’s original announcement however, only applied to series filming in the United States and Canada, whereas The Witcher films out of Arborfield Studios, which sits just 40 miles outside of London.

Pause in filming on The Witcher also comes just as the UK announces they’ll be closing schools across the country beginning Friday (March 20) as confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to rise.

With that in mind, it makes sense that Netflix is getting a head start in taking precautionary measures to protect its cast and crew as the U.K. begins to rev up its plans to stop the further spread of the novel coronavirus.
