Days before The Walking Dead season 7 premieres on AMC (revealing who Negan killed!), the network has bit into an eighth season.

Notably, The Walking Dead season 8 will kick off with the show’s 100th episode — a milestone moment for any television series. It’ll have sixteen episodes in total.

Obviously, the show’s renewal is not a surprise. It’s been a major hit for AMC — their biggest still on the air.

“Eeny, meeny, miny, more,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios in a statement. “What a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott M. Gimple and some of the hardest-working people in television to bring The Walking Dead to the fans. And, most important, thanks to those fans for breathing life into this remarkable series right along with us.”

The Walking Dead season 8 will likely premiere in October 2017 — the Halloween month has traditionally been where AMC kicks off new seasons.

Meanwhile, AMC is chugging along with their spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead, whose third season will return next year. The show hasn’t been as well received as the parent show, but its ratings are still strong.

Do you think you’ll stick around for ‘The Walking Dead’ season 8?

The show seems to be introducing a bunch of new characters to continue expanding the world for season 7, like Ezekiel and his tiger Shiva. Watch a trailer for the new Walking Dead episodes here!
