The forthcoming season of The Walking Dead will include the introduction of Jesus, a critical character in the comic series.

Tom Payne (Luck) has joined The Walking Dead season 6 as Jesus (a.k.a. Paul Monroe), who joins the Alexandria Safe-Zone after moving from another community named Hilltop Colony.

Jesus plays a critical part in Alexandria, especially leading up to the battle against Negan and The Savors. Unfortunately Negan has yet to be cast, but we have some ideas about who should play him.

Don’t expect Jesus to appear in the early episodes of season 6. Considering he’s only been cast recently, it’s likely he won’t appear on the show until the second half of the season (which’ll air in 2016). Perhaps showrunners are gearing up for a Negan appearance at the very end of season 6, or at the beginning of season 7.

Tom Payne is the latest in a line of new characters joining the show for its sixth run. Others include Xander Berkeley (playing a character somewhat similar to Negan) and Corey Hawkins (who’ll play Heath). Oh, and don’t forget that Morgan is back in the fold.

The Walking Dead returns Sunday, October 11 at 9 p.m. eastern / pacific on AMC.
