The Walking Dead‘s beauty, Lauren Cohan, talks co-star Steven Yeun, Maggie Greene, and the ongoing theme of love and war as The Walking Dead season 3 finale draws even closer.

The Walking Dead fan favourite, Lauren Cohan, was on hand for an interview with AMC regarding season 3 and how Maggie is coping with Glenn Rhee, played by Steven Yeun, with the battle of love and war in a post-apocalyptic world.

“I feel the writers are writing to my emotional self.”

Maggie has seen quite a different life than what she imagined back on the Greene’s farm, as she settles into life in a cold, damp prison while zombies roam the fields outside of the walls. But how has Maggie coped emotionally? The transition from season 2 has certainly been affecting Maggie, with stress levels elevating as each episode passes; how has that affected both Maggie and Cohan?

Cohan said, “I feel the writers are writing to my emotional self. I’m very good at being emotional like that. That’s something they’ve probably recognised and written to, so it’s been a very rewarding season for me. Fun is not something you think of when talking about the apocalypse, but it really has been enjoyable. If somebody is going through emotional gut-wrenching material, it’s pretty serious. But if we have time and if we have to jump off a car and slash somebody’s head open, we do have fun with that.”

Maggie is one of the most dynamic characters throughout the series, as we’ve seen her transition between lover, daughter, sister and friend. Maggie has even had motherly attributes asserted onto her, which was clearly seen when she first held lil-asskicker, Judith Grimes. With her younger sister, Beth, portrayed by the multi-talented Emily Kinney, Maggie certainly has a lot to show for herself. But what qualities did Cohan most admire in Maggie?

Cohan admitted, “As much as I love the romance between Maggie and Glenn, I just really love seeing the father-daughter relationship done right on-screen. Maybe it’s because I have two dads. My mother remarried when I was about 7. My biological dad and I are very close and my step-dad and I are very close. My moral dilemma is always which one is going to walk me down the aisle, when the day comes.”

“At the end of the day what’s on camera is there forever, and I don’t want it to look fake or self-conscious.”

After last night’s episode 3×13 “Arrow on the Doorpost” we learnt even more about Maggie, after she had a pretty intense sex scene with Glenn. How did Cohan cope with such intimacy?

Cohan said, “I really trust the crew. At the end of the day what’s on camera is there forever, and I don’t want it to look fake or self-conscious. There’s also only so much that people can show on cable, but we wanted to do justice to this couple in love. They have this stubborn argument that has lasted for days and weeks and it was this healing moment. I think it’s a beautiful scene.”

What do you think about Cohan’s performance as Maggie Greene, and what do you think lies in store for Maggie? And, what influence do you think Maggie will have on The Walking Dead‘s season 3 finale? Will she make it, or won’t she?

Be sure to check out next week’s episode, 3×14 “Prey,” over on AMC this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
