The CW has released a new The Vampire Diaries sneak peek video featuring Ian Somerhalder, who previews Damon’s season 4 arc!
The Vampire Diaries is back tonight with the premiere episode “Growing Pains”! At the end of season 3, Elena began her transition into a vampire – after choosing Stefan over Damon. But now that she is literally becoming a different person, what will that mean for the triangle and Damon’s feelings going forward?

In the interview, Somerhalder lays out what Damon has gone through before the events of the season 4 finale: Alaric died, leaving Damon with no friends left but Stefan. “Ooh, that’s a sad reality,” Somerhalder allows. Even though Damon and Stefan are closer now than they’ve ever been, Elena turning into a vampire (and still being in between them as she is) might drive them further apart than ever.
Somerhalder also previews that there’ll be “a lot of cool stuff coming up,” now that Elena is a vampire. Now, she’s no longer a “young, beautiful damsel in distress,” and no longer has to be protected. “The reality sets in that she ultimately is now this other force of nature.”
The Vampire Diaries 4×01 “Growing Pains” airs tonight at 8/7c on The CW! How do you think Elena’s transformation will impact her feelings about Damon and Stefan’s – and perhaps more importantly, the brothers’ feelings about her?!
