The Vampire Diaries is back Thursday with “The Rager,” and a new sneak peek reveals a tense scene between Damon and Stefan.

In the clip, Stefan explains to Damon his plan to cheer up Elena by taking her on a motorcycle ride, and Damon then shares his intention to kill the new vampire hunter and get the hell out of town, because, “I’m not wanted here anymore.”

But Stefan doesn’t agree. “You blood share with my girlfriend, I punch you in the face,” he reasons, but Stefan clearly still wants his brother around.

We have to assume that Damon isn’t actually leaving town, but what do you think will make him stay?

The Vampire Diaries episode “The Rager” airs Thursday at 8/7c on The CW. It features the arrival of The Secret Circle‘s Phoebe Tonkin, whose character Hayley is a werewolf who has come to Mystic Falls to seek out Tyler, and will presumably shake up the Caroline/Tyler relationship.

Check out the first sneak peek released from this episode, in which Rebekah tries to apologise to Matt for trying to kill him and Elena by causing his car to drive off the bridge. Naturally, he is not very receptive to her.
