The Vampire Diaries star Zach Roerig has spoken about Matt’s role in season 4, and whether he’ll have a romance with Rebekah or April.

In the second episode of The Vampire Diaries, Matt let Elena feed off of him in the church, as a way to alleviate the guilt he feels about the role he played in turning her into a vampire.

Going forward, “I think that’s going to be Matt’s biggest struggle,” Roerig tells Zap2It. “Just the guilt, and why him, why would Stefan — even if Elena did want it — ever listen to [her].”

Speaking about Matt’s love life, he says, “Rebekah and Matt have been a little bit … hot and cold. I think you can expect to see Rebekah trying to kind of clean things up with Matt and get him to forgive her. ‘I got upset. My bad, I tried to kill you. But you survived! So now we can flirt again!’ I feel like it’s going to continue to be the same dance, though, because at the end of the day, in some weird way, Matt can wrap his head around why Rebekah would do that.”

Zap2It also hints that something may be heating up between Matt and April, after witnessing some “sweet” scenes being filmed between Roerig and Grace Phipps. But Roerig insists that Matt sees her more as a little sister, so we’ll have to wait and see!

What did you think about the scene where Elena fed off Matt? Do you think he should have a romance with Rebekah, or stick to human girls like April?
