It may be the off-season, but it’s good to hear things are ticking away behind-the-scenes at HBO’s The Newsroom. New information has been released regarding the season 1 DVD, a quick-fire Q&A with showrunner Aaron Sorkin has him answering all kinds of questions, and which TV and film star hates The Newsroom showrunner?
Who hates Sorkin?
“I hate Aaron Sorkin because he didn’t hire me.”
Asner was obviously joking, as he went on to discuss the kind of role he would like to play should he appear on The Newsroom. His dream role? “I could be Fox News.”
Aaron Sorkin Q&A
The Hollywood Reporter has listed its Top 50 Showrunners, and The Newsroom‘s Aaron Sorkin features in the drama category. Sorkin was as cagey as usual in the fast Q&A, however he did give us a few behind-the-scenes details to tide us over.
On the most difficult scene to write this year, Sorkin said:
The first scene of The Newsroom. Starting is always the hardest for me.
The rest of the interview covered his influences, proudest accomplishments and favourite writers. Sorkin also described several strange responses he had to particular West Wing episodes and storylines. And our favourite answer? In giving advice on overcoming writer’s block, Sorkin suggested “talking it out with the writing staff” and (assumedly joking) “sometimes beating up an intern.”
‘The Newsroom’ season 1 DVD
Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed the DVD for season 1 of The Newsroom pop up on pre-release on HBO’s website. Unfortunately we still don’t know when the DVD will be released, and by the sounds of it the special features are still being developed.
The Newsroom‘s Jeff Daniels recently tweeted:
The Newsroom season 1 will be available in both Blu-ray and DVD formats, and American fans can sign-up now to be notified when pre-orders begin. No artwork or details have been released as of yet.

The Newsroom: The Complete First Season DVD will retail for $59.99.
