The creative partnership which brought us Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra has come to an end — at least for now.
At the recent art show celebrating Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, Bryan Konietzko confirmed that he and co-creator Mike DiMartino are no longer working as creative partners. Instead, the two are focusing on separate projects.

The news is bittersweet for fans, who fondly gave Konietzko and DiMartino the portmanteau “Bryke” years ago. The creative team has been together for more than ten years, inventing and bringing to life the rich world of bending, elemental nations, and the Avatar.
But though DiMartino and Konietzko are no longer working together, the co-creators continue to support each others’ creative work. And both halves of “Bryke” confirm that they are open to renewing their partnership in the future.
If that happens however, the subject of their work will not be set in the Avatar universe. When The Legend of Korra concluded in December, Konietzko and DiMartino confirmed that their work in the world they created has come to an end.
“We’re all tired and burnt out,” the co-creators admitted. “We need to move on and take that next step.”
That being said, the possibility that The Legend of Korra will be continued in comic book form remains viable. The comics continuing the story of Avatar: The Last Airbender have been very popular among fans, and both DiMartino and Konietzko remain connected to developing storylines for the comics series.

Fans may have other television series to look forward to in the future as well. Several members of The Legend of Korra staff have apparently teamed up and are hard at work developing their own series. Though not part of the Avatar universe, the work in progress is teasingly dubbed “Korra 2.0” due to the staff’s connection to Konietzko and DiMartino’s two beloved series.
