Rumors flew last week about the future of NBC’s Community, 30 Rock, and Parks and Recreation, so here’s what is actually happening and my thoughts on what it means for the fate of each of these fabulous comedies.

Last week, I reported rumors for Hypable assuming they were fact (aka I heard all 3 of these shows may be getting shorter seasons than getting the can, so I freaked out and posted it on Hypable in a bitter emotional rage). For that I apologize. So here are the for-real facts, the rumors and what my thoughts are on what it all means for the future of my favorite tv comedies.

The facts:
Community: renewed for a shortened 13 episode fourth season, moved to Friday at 8:30 p.m.

30 Rock: renewed for a 13 episode seventh season, which will officially be the show’s last season, and will be Thursdays at 8 p.m.

Parks and Recreation: renewed for a full 22 episode fifth season, Thursdays at 9:30 p.m.

The rumors:
Community: Dan Harmon, the creator, may not be returning. Chevy Chase may not be returning.

My interpretation:
Community: Things are not looking good. First, the move to Friday (often called the death slot) and the shortened renewal, make it look like the show may be on it’s way out. Furthermore, the fights between Dan Harmon and Chevy Chase are hurting the show, and could lead to losing one or both of these talented but head-strong men. Even though Joel McHale has been adorable in his response to their fued/the move to Friday, the future remains bleak for Community. I think this signals the end, and that season 4 will be the last (although I still hope and pray for six seasons and a movie). What are your thoughts on the future of Community? (Just to lighten the mood I give you this fabulous Jim Rash quote, “Come on, I’m Dean, now my hands are all clean. In this moment, I am stapling!”)

30 Rock: After seven seasons, 30 Rock comes to a close. This also means Alec Baldwin will stay on the show, and what would the show be without Jack? I think this show is going out on a high note after a nice, long and solid run. Do you think there should be more 30 Rock? What are your thoughts on the last season announcement?

Parks and Recreation: Out of all of these comedies, Parks and Recreation has the brightest future. Because it was renewed for a whole season and has maintained a good Thursday time slot (those that go earlier in the night often suffer from lower ratings), I think there’s a possibility that Parks and Recreation might have more than just one more season on the air. I hope it gets through at least six seasons! What are your thoughts on the future of Parks and Recreation? (Requests for future seasons: Andy does become a police officer, Paul Rudd returns, and Leslie and Ben live on her campaign bus as she joked.) What are your requests for next season?
