Maze Runner’s final installment The Death Cure will be released in early 2017, and we now know the book won’t be split into two.

Exhibitor Relations announced yesterday that The Maze Runner: The Death Cure has received an official release date: February 17, 2017.

Within the tweet we also learn that the final installment will stand as one movie and not be split into two parts, butting the trend that so many young adult adaptations have been embracing.

Director Wes Ball mentioned late last year that it was his preference to keep the series as a trilogy. The three tier structure was important to him and he definitely saw the conclusion standing as a singular film: “I think three is the number; beginning, middle, end, that’s it. Four? I think there’s something off about four.”

Along with knowing that the movie will premiere February 17, 2017, we also know that T.S. Nowlin has been hired to pen the screenplay.

Apart from that, fans are still focused on the Maze Runner’s sequel The Scorch Trials. The first images have been released, scoring for the film is under way, and Ball has confirmed that it’s only a matter of time before we see the film’s first official trailer.

But it’s never too early to start planning ahead and it’s good to see that 20th Century Fox has a clear path forward.

Are you happy ‘The Death Cure’ will not be split into 2 movies?
