John Simm is joining the cast of The Catch in a role that puts to rest an early mystery of the series.

Variety reports that the former Doctor Who actor will be joining the cast of the newest Shondaland drama on ABC, The Catch. He will be playing the role of Margot’s mysterious benefactor. Margot is a pretty tough woman and even she seems to be afraid of the benefactor, so we’re guessing he’s going to be an extremely intimidating character, much like the Master on Doctor Who.

This puts to rest any theories that the benefactor is somebody that we’re already acquainted with on the show, such as Jules Dao.

We will still have to wait a little longer to see Simm get involved in the cat and mouse game, as he will not be joining the show until The Catch, season 1, episode 6.

The showrunner of The Catch, Allan Heinberg, told Variety that “He’s one of my all-time favorite actors. I’ve wanted to work with him my whole professional life, and I could not be more grateful for that. We’re getting a great guest cast.” This implies that Simm will not be part of the cast as a series regular, but rather a guest character that pops in from time to time.

Simm will be joining the already established cast of Mireille Enos as Alice, Peter Krause as Ben, Sonya Walger as Margot, Alimi Ballard as Reggie, Jacky Ido as Jules Dao, Rose Rollins as Valerie, Elvy Yost as Sophie, and Jay Hayden as Danny.
