Many mysteries are beginning to unfold on The Catch, but one that we hope season 1, episode 2 answers is who is this mysterious Jules Dao?
We’ve only seen one episode of The Catch, so at this point most things are pretty straight forward. We’re guessing things are going to get tangled pretty quickly, but right now everything is fitting together quite nicely. On one side of the ring we have the Anderson/Vaughan crew representing Team Alice, and in the other side we have the twisted trio that is Team Ben. Throw in a tragic love story and you’ve got The Catch in a nutshell.
The one piece of the puzzle that doesn’t quite fit right now is Jules Dao, played by Jacky Ido (Inglourious Basterds). We’ve met the many awesome women, and we think we have a handle on Ben, Reggie and Danny, but who is this mysterious agent who’s trying to weasel his way into the cat and mouse game?
He claims he wants to help Alice, but can we trust him? Will he be the hero of the story or is he just another villain? Here’s some things we know and some things we hope to find out in The Catch, season 1, episode 2, “The Real Killer.”
What we know
If what we’ve been told so far is even true, the very short list of things we know about Agent Dao includes:
1) He works for the FBI.
2) He has been trying to track down Ben for two years. He even followed him (and we assume Margot and Reggie too) all over Europe.
3) He wants Alice’s help to finally crack the case, to the point of creepily stalking her through a parking garage.4) He…ummm… Actually, never mind. That’s really it.
What we want to know
Here are the many things we’re hoping The Catch, season 1, episode 2 divulges about Jules Dao:
1) Why is he so obsessed with Ben? As far as con artists go, we know Ben (or should we say Margot, who is the real ring leader) is good, but is he good enough to warrant an obsessive two year manhunt? Jules has gotten to the point where he is trying to enlist the help of Ben’s latest victim/ex-fiance. He could just be really into this investigation, but we’re guessing there’s something more personal going on underneath the surface. Probably, Jules or someone he knew was victimized by the terrible three and he is now trying to get revenge for his own, personal reasons. If Alice ever decides to accept his help, maybe they will bond over their mutual betrayer.
2) Is he really an FBI agent? Sure he showed us his badge and said he was with the FBI, but The Catch has already illustrated that people aren’t always who they say they are. If he’s not with the FBI, could he be another con artist hoping to get to Alice at her lowest point?
3) If he is, why hasn’t he caught Ben yet? With the resources of the FBI behind him, shouldn’t Jules have gotten his man by now? Alice was able to track him down at a party within days of finding out who he was. He may want to try out a different career path unless Ben and his posse have just been extra good at keeping themselves hidden for the last two years.
4) Will he help or hinder Alice? This one really depends on the answers to the other questions. If Alice decides to accept his help and his intentions are as he claims, he could be a good addition to the team. Although, Alice seems to have already gotten farther in the investigation than Jules has in the last two years! Alice’s personal attachment to Ben and the fact that he is still definitely in love with her also gives her an edge, so really, she doesn’t need Jules’ help at all. He could, however, act as a hindrance in her investigation, either willingly or simply by getting in the way. Either way we’re guessing he’s going to end up being more trouble than good.
5) Could he be connected to the mysterious benefactor? The one other mysterious character in play is Margot’s benefactor. If Jules isn’t who he says he is, could he be connected to the benefactor in some way or could he even be the benefactor? Anything is still possible!
The Catch, season 1, episode 2, “The Real Killer,” airs Thursday, March 31 on ABC at 10/9c. Make sure you’re watching to find out more about Jules Dao!
