The 100 showrunner and series creator Jason Rothenberg announced on Sunday (August 4) that the show will end with season 7.
Rothenberg made the announcement on his Twitter, ahead of The CW’s panel at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour.

For the wording in Rothenberg’s announcement, the decision to bring The 100 to a close for good in season 7 appears to have been his own. With the series coming to a natural conclusion, and playing out in line with Rothenberg’s plan, it will hopefully wrap up in a satisfying way for fans of the long-running CW show.
The 100 was adapted from the young adult novels by Kass Morgan, and though the two have diverged over time, they are each beloved for the difficult and emotional stories they choose to tell.
With The 100 coming to an end, it will be the third such legacy show closing its doors for good at the network. Arrow and Supernatural are slated to end during the 2019-2020 season. Other staple shows, such as Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend have also recently ended.
The news will certainly be bittersweet. But with the recent announcement of new shows heading to the network, such as Batwoman, Nancy Drew, and Katey Keene, fans of The 100 won’t be short of choice to try and soften the blow.
The 100‘s season 6 finale is set to air on The CW on August 6, 2019.
