The final 10 episodes of Teen Wolf are now underway, and if the season 6B premiere is anything to go by, this year promises to be a walk down memory lane.

If you haven’t watched Teen Wolf season 6, episode 11, “Said the Spider to the Fly,” then read ahead at your own risk. There’s gonna be some major spoilers.

The current promotional material for the final 10 episodes of Teen Wolf season 6 have showed us that this back half of the season is going to be rife with emotions and nostalgia — and I’m here for it!

In the season 6B premiere, we got plenty of hints of Teen Wolf’s dedication to making this final outing one of its best by falling back on what makes the show so great. We had plenty of horror, bundles of laughs, great character moments, and tons of emotions. The tone of the show feels like we’ve stepped back in time and landed in season 1 once more.

Teen Wolf was always meant to be part horror, part comedy. Sometimes the pendulum swung one way more than the other (I don’t need to remind anyone of season 3, do I?), but there was always a regression to the mean — the show knows how to balance those two opposites in a way few other shows can without becoming a parody of themselves.

But aside from generally just feeling like the old Teen Wolf we know and love, there were plenty of nods at past gags and moments that remind us this series and these characters haven’t forgotten what they’ve all been through. It’s callbacks like this that worked so well for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and which make both shows so rich and cohesive.

Some of the callbacks were minor, like holding up Stiles’ roll of duct tape or when Mason brandishes the bat (R.I.P.), while others had much more meaning. The mention of the nemeton reminds us that Beacon Hills is still quite literally a beacon for the supernatural. It also reminds us that Scott and Lydia know what it means to pay the price for their actions. They saved Stiles, and no one is regretting that, but it doesn’t mean they can be complacent about what they’ve done. There are always consequences.

But my favorite scenes contain character moments. When Scott gets into the Jeep and slams the door a little too hard, the visor falls off into his lap. We see a note duct taped to it that simply reads, “Be Gentle,” written in Stiles’ hand. Sure, it provides a moment of levity before Lydia shows up to tell Scott they can’t leave Beacon Hills just yet, but it’s also a reminder that Stiles was there not too long ago. And after half a season where nearly all the characters forgot Stiles even existed, this was the perfect way to show fans that Stiles will always be a part of the series, even if his screen time is less than what we want it to be these days.

And from the promotional material for the upcoming season, we know there are going to be plenty more characters who will lend that early Teen Wolf vibe to the show, including Derek, Ethan, and even Jackson.

But the greatest moment of the episode has to come at the end, when we actually do get to see Stiles. Strong rumors had been circulating that Dylan O’Brien wouldn’t have time to return to the show due to his busy schedule (between Death Cure and American Assassin, the kid’s been busy). But surprise! After a hilarious (and inspiring) voicemail left on Scott’s phone, we actually get to see Stiles in the flesh as he heads off to his first day at the FBI, where he’ll be working alongside real agents.

But it doesn’t stop there. We get some classic Stiles moments — adjusting the tie, unpacking his bag, the relentless questions, and the spit-take — before we see they’re throwing it way back. Turns out the FBI has its eyes on one Derek Hale, whom Stiles sees on screen and understandably freaks out over. He’s wanted for mass murder? This can’t be good.

Except it is good. It’s great. It’s freaking fantastic. Teen Wolf and the actors themselves know how important both Stiles and Derek are to the show, how much fans care about these two characters separately and together. It could feel like the wrong kind of fan service, but it doesn’t. Instead, it feels like what they’ve been doing throughout the entire episode, which is making us fall in love with this show all over again.

The footage of Derek is from season 1 when he’s running through the woods. The setup is clear — Stiles will have to work from the inside of the FBI to warn Derek that the agency is hot on his trail and maybe save his life in the process (I know you all clocked that Stiles-in-his-FBI-vest-saving-Derek scene in the trailer).

It’ll bring together two characters who have an insane amount of chemistry and force them to cross paths after being apart for far too long. And once that happens, they’ll return to the pack and we’ll all get nostalgic together over these final episodes of Teen Wolf.

Now we just have to hope that they don’t kill off any of our favorites in the process.

Teen Wolf season 6 is now airing on Sunday nights at 8/7c on MTV
