Teen Wolf season 6 had a large presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 this year, and we’re here to break down the new footage and share our one-on-one interviews with the cast.

The Teen Wolf season 6 panel discussion came with plenty of surprise guests, cameo videos from the cast, and new footage for season 6. The videos have yet to land online, so we’ve got a breakdown of what we’ve seen.

‘Teen Wolf’ season 6 video footage

Tyler Hoechlin (Derek) wasn’t able to make the panel this year, but he and Ian Bohen (Peter) found enough time to give us a great video introduction to Derek’s return to Beacon Hills. It turns out that the figure in the red shirt we saw in the trailer was not Scott, but rather Derek Hale. He comes upon a group of dead bodies in the partially burned down house while an unnamed man narrates over the top of it.

The man talks about trying to find whoever killed the group of people, but that someone else was on the case as well — someone angry. “He came in broad daylight, attacking in silence,” the man says. We get a great scene where a group of men are taken out one by one by a Derek Hale who flits from shadow to shadow. The rumors about Derek talk about his incredible strength and speed. Lore cites that he stands over eight feet tall.

Chris, who is on the receiving end of this story, is a little more skeptical. He’s seen Derek Hale up close, after all.

“So you believe it, too? You believe in werewolves,” the man states.

“I believe in Derek Hale,” Chris answers. Understandably, the room went insane.

Derek looks around the empty warehouse and spots several vehicles under tarps. Before he pulls the blanket off one, it’s already obvious which he has chosen. Though we don’t think it’s his exact car from the first couple seasons of Teen Wolf, Derek does manage to find another black Camaro that harks back to his original ride of choice from the beginning of the series.

And because Derek Hale has learned to take pleasure in life’s small joys, he drives through the warehouse wall, does a couple doughnuts in the dirt, and then squeals off toward what we hope is Beacon Hills.

After seeing a montage of audition tapes from most of the main cast, we were treated to some more videos from cast members who couldn’t be on the panel, including Holland Roden and Colton Haynes. Haynes introduced a clip of his return to the show, where Ethan and Jackson enter the school for the first time, looking for Scott.

In a wonderfully cut scene, we see Jackson walking down the hallway, first checking out one of the female students and then checking out one of the male students. This is undoubtedly an homage to Haynes coming out last year. Ethan chides him for staring at all the high school students before they’re stopped by the new guidance counselor, Ms. Monroe (Sibo Mlambo), who recognizes who Jackson is. Quite proud of himself, Jackson asks, “You’ve heard of me?”

The scene then cuts to the basement, where the boys have been chained to a fence and doused in water. “You’ve heard of me?” Ethan mocks. “You’ve heard of me?” The counselor then demands to know what they want with Scott McCall and proceeds to show them that she’s serious about getting an answer — by electrocuting them.

The final footage we got from the panel includes a special trailer they cut together just for Comic-Con. The video opens on a new character, named Nolan, who’s talking to Mason and Corey about DNA and how it can be damaged, and therefore change a person. He wants to test out his theory, and he does that by jamming a pen into Corey’s hand. Corey immediately heals, of course, but the entire library sees the incident and it continues to stir up fear about what sort of strange creatures live in Beacon Hills.

“This isn’t about killing just one werewolf,” Gerard Argent says. “We’re building an army to hunt them all.” This season is very much about fearmongering, and it’s obvious that many of the characters outside the pack are on one end or the other of that notion. Gerard is using the fear to collect people who can help him take care of Beacon Hills’ werewolf problem once and for all.

“Do you know what a subduction zone is?” asks Ms. Monroe. “When tectonic plates are crushing together with enormous force, either you release the pressure with a series of small quakes, or you get one devastating quake that levels an entire city.” It’s an apt metaphor, especially pared with footage of the pack fighting for their lives.

Oh, yeah, and we’re pretty sure we saw Scott standing over Melissa in the hospital. This does not bode well.

Then again, Scott McCall has never been one to give up. He has one last line before the trailer cuts to black:

“What did you think we were going to do, run?”

Not a chance.

‘Teen Wolf’ season 6B SDCC 2017 video interviews

We caught up with select members of the cast on the press line where we asked them about what we can expect from Teen Wolf season 6 — and beyond.

Charlie Carver — Ethan

It turns out that Carver had been keeping the secret of his return to Teen Wolf for quite a while, but we’re not too upset about it — it made for a great surprise for that initial season 6 trailer. He says the environment on set is the same as it has been since day one, and it was particularly nice to work with Haynes, whom he has known for quite a few years prior. His brother, Max Carver, might be a little jealous, and we don’t blame him. Upon asking if we’ll focus at all on how Ethan is still handling Aiden’s death, Carver says this season is more about the pack in its current state than living in the past.

Shelley Hennig — Malia

At the panel, Hennig mentioned how she would come back for a larger role on the show if Malia was funny. Then, on set, Davis said, “Listen, I don;t like improv on my show, but you’re allowed to do it every now and then. Just you.” Good thing she’s a fantastic comedian.

Linden Ashby — Sheriff Stilinski

How does the sheriff feel about Stiles joining the FBI? “Super proud,” Ashby says. But his answer about the sheriff, Melissa, and Chris is a little less straightforward. He may be just a tad disappointed it didn’t pan out the way he thought it would. But there’s plenty of great stuff coming up for the sheriff, and Ashby did manage to get behind the camera this season as well!

Dylan Sprayberry — Liam

“I think he’s definitely got his stuff fully together,” Sprayberry says of where he sees his character in about five years. “I hope he gets back together with Hayden. We don’t get see too much of that this last season, but I love those characters together.” Sprayberry also goes on to say that Liam could even be the leader of Beacon Hills at this point — depending on where Scott is and what he’s doing.

Jeff Davis — Executive Producer

Speaking of what’s coming next for Teen Wolf, Davis says, “There’s a new regime at [MTV] and they’re still really big fans of the show, so they were like, ‘Why are we ending all of this? It’s really good and it’s so connected to the MTV brand now.'” But before we get to that point, Davis apparently has a few good surprises along the way (more cameos!) and a stellar finale.
