We attended the Teen Wolf panel at Paleyfest L.A. last night and just before it started we caught up with the cast on the red carpet to get some teasers for season 5.

The Teen Wolf Paleyfest panel was held last night in the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, and we caught up with the cast before the show to see what season 5 has in store for us. Despite not being able to give away spoilers for the season, they all had pretty interesting things to say!

Malia has turned out to be way more of a good character than anticipated, so can you tell us if her path will change this season?
I think Malia is still who she is at her core, but she definitely takes Stiles’ advice, or coaching as I like to call it. As to how to fit in with the pack, and also everyday life. She doesn’t want to get caught, so she’s gotta somehow fit in, but at the core of it she’s still her quirky, honest self.

If you could pick any actress to play your mother, who would you choose?
Oh man! I mean, just any actress? Julianne Moore! But I mean…I don’t think we look alike. I don’t think she’d do it, but a girl could dream.

If you could pick any character, other than Scott, that you want Kira to get closer to this season, who would it be?
I think Malia. I think Kira and Malia have a really great dynamic because they’re so different, but I think they have something so similar at the same time. They’re both supernatural and trying to figure out what it means to be who they are.

Back when Scott showed Kira his werewolf abilities, Kira’s reaction was just so different from the other people he’s shown. Could you explain the emotion behind Kira’s reaction to that?
I think, for me, when Kira first sees Scott as a werewolf, I think it’s one of those moments where she’s like, it’s just breathtaking and so beautiful. Kira’s really into the whole supernatural mythology and she’s really into that culture. She’s hoping that it’s really real and I think when she sees Scott turn into a werewolf she realizes, “Oh my gosh, this is real,” and there’s someone out there who’s living it and she gets to see it right in front of her eyes. I think it’s a really exciting, sort of like a love at first sight moment.

Liam has really been integrated into the pack by the fifth season, but is he still best friends with Mason?
Oh yeah, definitely. Liam is the kind of person where you know he’ll have new friends, but he’ll always stick with his core group, his best friend. We’re going to see a lot more of [Liam and Mason] bonding and growing with each other. It’s going to be a lot of fun this season. Mason and I are going to have a lot more fun and we’re gonna do a lot of exploring together.

Dylan O’Brien

What do you think Stiles wants to do with his life in the long run?
I don’t know, that’s a good question! Maybe he should be a cop. I always thought it would be cool if they flash forward randomly for something and he was a cop like his dad. That would be cool, local Beacon Hills Sheriff like his dad.

Scott’s finally started to accept his role as True Alpha, so what’s the next biggest hurdle for him?
Trying to maintain the peace in his pack. He has been this protector for so long, but it’s kind of new to him being a protector, so he’s a little on edge and high strung about it. But now he’s got this new calm, relaxed position with his pack and he’s just trying to keep everyone together now rather than trying to protect the world. He’s still protecting the world, he knows he’s doing a good job with that, but he’s also trying to protect and keep his pack together at the same time. In a zen way! In a peaceful, everybody calm the hell down, relax kind of way.

As creatively as possible, tease the next season of Teen Wolf in just 5 words.
The most passionate season ever. Everyone is so passionate. Me, the writers, the directors, the other actors, damn. We have never been so stoked for Teen Wolf as we are right now.

Is Lydia getting closer to the girls on the show?
The female relationships have really grown this season, which I appreciate. They’re only just interacting, but they’ve bonded and essentially fighting a lot of season 5 crime this cycle, so it’s been fun to play with that with Shelley and Arden.

What can you tell us about the new characters this season?
I know they’re young! They’re fresh, fresh meat, guys! There’s no romance; I think Lydia is focused towards the other direction. There is romance amongst them!

You scream a lot on the show, has that been uncomfortable or awkward?
Not really. I think I blew my vocal chords though, so I had to go to a voice person and one person said I’d ruined it, but another person said I didn’t, and it’s still, it hasn’t changed. I used to have a pretty strong singing voice and now not so much, but I’m trying to get it back!
