According to the synopsis, this episode will introduce a previously unseen Winchester: Sam and Dean’s paternal grandfather, Henry, played by guest star Gil McKinney. Henry is described as “Robert Downey Jr. meets Cary Grant” as well as “dapper, smart, and considerably cocky.”

After joining an anti-demon cult, Henry travels from 1958 to 2013 to “stop a demmon named Abbadon.” He appears in Sam and Dean’s hotel room looking for his son John. “Through Henry, Sam and Dean learn more about their father and the Winchester blood line.”

It looks as though Henry will learn about his son as well; in the images above, we see Henry going through John’s hunting journal, which he left to Sam and Dean to continue the family business.

It’s also interesting to note that both sides of Sam and Dean’s family were hunters, since their mother, Mary Campbell, came from a long line of hunters as well.

We previously learned Henry will not make the trip through time alone. He will be followed by Josie Sands, a 28-year-old “sexy, strong Katharine Hepburn type…with a secret.”

“As Time Goes By” airs Wednesday, January 30 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
