After numerous references to and veiled looks at the Man of Steel in Supergirl season 1, Superman will appear in the show’s second season.

Per Deadline, Supergirl is currently casting the Man of Steel for the first two episodes of season 2. Whether he will appear beyond those first two episodes remains to be seen — but I’d be willing to bet he will.

“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. “We cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape.”

This is noteworthy for a couple of reasons. First, The WB has been reluctant to have characters overlap between the films and television universes, despite them being separate. Arrow, for instance, has lost several characters, including its Suicide Squad, due to the films. But Henry Cavill is currently portraying Superman in the films and will appear in the upcoming Justice League film.

Second, the producers purposefully kept Superman out of direct sight in Supergirl‘s first season because they wanted to focus on Kara’s story. Superman rescued Kara once when she was losing consciousness and left before she woke up as well as arrived to help with Myriad only to be put under its control. Clark also kept up an online relationship with Kara, instant messaging and texting her at various points. We also saw a young Kal-El when Kara was under the influence of the Black Mercy.

But now, with Kara set up as the true heroine of Supergirl, it looks as though the producers are comfortable bringing in her famous cousin.

This appears to be one of the first big changes coming to Supergirl with its move to The CW.

Supergirl season 2 will air Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
