The Star Wars series will see new iterations of video games under the direction of gaming giant EA. Pleases us, this does.

LucasArts, the publisher who used to be in charge of creating all Star Wars franchise games, was recently disbanded by Disney. Disney acquired the rights to the Star Wars franchise after buying them from George Lucas for 4 billion dollars this past October.

Now, it seems as though Disney wants to breathe new life into the Star Wars franchise games under EA, the company responsible for games such as Mass Effect and The Sims.

According to IGN, the divisions of EA that will start development of Star Wars games are “Battlefield developer, DICE; Dead Space developer, Visceral and Mass Effect developer, BioWare.”

In speaking of what Star Wars fans can expect from these changes, EA labels President Frank Gibeau said: “DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise.”

“The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay,” said Gibeau. Unfortunately, this still may not mean that games such as Star Wars 1313 will ever see the light of day after the disbandment of LucasArts.

‘Star Wars’ games are back

What does this mean for series such as Star Wars: Battlefront and The Force Unleashed?
Perhaps we will eventually learn to not miss our old Star Wars video game series if they’re replaced by more inventive storylines and gameplay.
