The planetary setting of Disney’s forthcoming Star Wars Land has been revealed, inviting travelers to an unseen corner of the galaxy.

The planet of Batuu will be the fully-immersive setting of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the newest addition to Disney parks in California and Orlando. The new planet is described as a bit of a seedy location on the edge of known space, offering plenty to explore for visitors to the park.

According to the planet’s lore as revealed on StarWars.com, Batuu is “a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge” that “was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes, but its prominence was bypassed by the rise of hyperspace travel.”

Having fallen out of use for reputable travelers, Batuu is “now home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream. It has become a thriving port for smugglers, rogue traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. It’s also a convenient safe haven for those intent on avoiding the expanding reach of the First Order.”

“While Batuu may be new to us,” the release concludes, “it is clearly already familiar to many characters from the Star Wars saga as a stepping off point for epic adventures.”

It’s exciting to see that all eras of established Star Wars storytelling will be represented in Batuu, from older smugglers to the new threats of the First Order. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is purported to be a fully immersive experience (along the lines of Universal Studios’ Wizarding World of Harry Potter) with in-universe park attendants and enough detail to satisfy even the most hawkish Star Wars fans.

Lucky visitors to the Disney Parks can get an early look at the planet of Batuu in the Star Tours ride, where it was first revealed today. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open to the public in 2019.
