Spider-Man is sticking in the MCU (for now), and according to reports, we owe a big debt of gratitude to Peter Parker himself, Tom Holland.

We all freaked out when reports dropped that Sony and Marvel were unable to come to an agreement, and Sony would be taking Peter Parker and Spider-Man out of the MCU.

While we all spent several days trying to figure out just how it would work, moving the MCU forward without Peter, and how Sony could take the character back without anything from the MCU (without rebooting the character and doing yet another origin story), apparently Tom Holland was being the hero we all needed.

Tom Holland’s work as Spider-Man has won the hearts of so many, and he’s played the character so incredibly well. And because he has been the youngest actor in the recent reboots to play the character (Tobey Maguire was 26 and Andrew Garfield was 28 while Tom Holland was cast at age 19), he’s been able to bring a bit of the fun from the comics of a teenager suddenly gaining superpowers.

So it makes sense that Holland wasn’t about to let this role go easily. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Holland made “multiple appeals” to Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger as well as Sony’s film chairman Tom Rothman to reach some kind of resolution.

And according to reports, it was really Holland who helped push the two companies to reconcile. The THR report states that the Marvel/Sony Spider-Man deal was “100 percent dead” prior to Holland’s intervention.

While money was most certainly the sticking point for Iger and Rothman, Holland was able to show the two entertainment execs the massive outpouring of fan support and love for Spider-Man. Ultimately, the two were able to come to an agreement, and we get to enjoy at least one more MCU flick with our friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man.

We’re so happy that Tom Holland helped keep Spider-Man in the MCU, and we can’t wait to see what is next for Peter Parker in Phase IV of the MCU.
