The first trailer for In Wonder gives Shawn Mendes fans a closer look at the pressures of stardom.

Shawn Mendes fans are likely counting down the days until the singer’s highly anticipated documentary film hits Netflix.

But for those who just can’t wait, the first trailer for In Wonder might serve to tide you over for the time being.

The trailer for the documentary, which dropped on Tuesday (October 20) gives viewers a taste of Mendes’ journey to self discovery, after finding himself at a crossroads following the physical and emotional demands of his rise to stardom and his last world tour.

While the trailer teases some heavier moments that delve into the pressure of fame right from the get-go, Mendes is quick to let the audience know that that’s not necessarily what the documentary is about.

“This isn’t a story about a famous musician— this is a story about a guy growing up,” explains the Grammy nominee over some home video footage. “I used to be like, my idols were born legendary, that’s just not the truth.”

Original Story (10/13/2020):

Shawn Mendes will be the next recording artist to have his life profiled in a music documentary at Netflix.

On Tuesday (October 13), Netflix announced that they’ve partnered with pop star Shawn Mendes and his long time manager, Andrew Gertler, to release a brand new feature length documentary called In Wonder.

The feature length documentary, which drops later next month, was directed by famed music video helmer Grant Singer, who in the past has worked with the likes of The Weeknd, Lorde, and Sam Smith.

In Wonder is described as being a portrait of the singer’s life, which will chronicle the past few years of Mendes’ rise and journey.

The announcement of a Shawn Mendes music documentary couldn’t have come at a better time— especially given that Mendes is gearing up to debut his highly anticipated forthcoming album, Wonder in December. It also comes hot on the heels of Mendes dropping the titular single off of his fourth studio album at the beginning of this month.

In Wonder debuts exclusively via Netflix on November 23.
